Industry & Employers
Looking to hire a dedicated, hard-working intern? Or perhaps you’re seeking an experienced, full-time fashion professional? Either way, you’ve come to the right place.
LIM College combines academic rigor and practical experience, making our students and graduates excellent prospects in any area of the fashion industry.
LIM College has been graduating highly motivated fashion professionals since 1939. By the time they apply for their first full-time job, all of our students have completed internships and a full-time Senior Co-op. They’ve also studied the fashion industry from a variety of perspectives and learned to think critically and communicate well.
Every year, we work directly with companies throughout the nation to place our students and graduates in internships and full-time positions. Our graduates are working throughout the fashion industry, making valuable contributions across the spectrum.
Focus on: CAD
Fashion merchandising professionals are “shocked and impressed” by the quality of portfolios created by students in LIM College’s Computer-Aided Drawing (CAD) classes, according to Visual Merchandising Professor Walter Atkinson.
CAD skills help students stay ahead of the curve. Currently, says Professor Atkinson, students often graduate with computer skills that their bosses do not have. Head designers and buyers generally have less CAD experience than their assistants.
In the CAD course, students work intensely with programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. They learn cutting-edge techniques for developing line sheets, fabric boards, wall planograms, and trend boards. Ultimately, each student completes a buyer portfolio, which is new to the merchandising industry.
The results speak for themselves. At least one LIM College student began interning at a major retailer and was made the primary CAD artist. Another was offered a job at The Gap.
Professor Atkinson, who has witnessed colossal changes in his 20 years in fashion merchandising, expects that students who participate in LIM’s CAD program will become the industry’s new leaders.
Industry professionals have plenty of other ways to get involved at LIM College, too. Many companies invite groups of students for on-site industry visits as part of our Field Trip program, for example, while our Fashion Survey course invites industry professionals to speak on campus.
